Looking to get a decent widescreen monitor for a variety of uses including lots of gaming and movie watching. Was hoping to not spend more then $300 when I ran into this at newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001081

There are only 2 reviews but the specs appear quite promising. I'm thinking of ordering tonight while it's still on sale but I just wanted to hear from some of you more experienced folks.

I just bought this thing on wed, and received it yesterday, and it's pretty awesome. I haven't spent much time with it but I had the Acer 19 widescreen and felt it was too small for multitasking so I pulled the trigger on this one. So far its definitely a step up in every way. I bought it for the 6ms response time and the height adjustment, I'm superficial I know. The contrast ratio, although a bit low doesn't bother me as much. There's not much info about this monitor on the intraweb which was frustrating as I made a mad scramble to research before impulse buying. It literally showed up 2 minutes on the monitors sections on newegg as I did a last minute check before i was to buy the Benq 20.1 widescreen. No complaints so far, I'm waiting for my new MB to come in so I can retire this 9500 pro I'm using to power the monitor. Overall satisfied with my purchase due to sexiness of the monitor, hope this helps

Personally, I'm weary of Viewsonics quality control, as there are numerous reports on Newegg about dead pixels and such. To me having a dead pixel is like getting that first ding on your brand new BMW if you will, it hurts too damn much and I probably won't be able to ignore it. I have bought 2 LCDs so far, and I'm lucky to say I haven't encountered one of those dreadful uncooperative pixel bastards. The viewsonic is quite the looker, and sports a higher contrast ratio of 800:1 to compared to the samsungs 700:1. The samsungs 6ms response time has the viewsonics beat, though not by much. I think these are all subjective anyways as you would have to look at both monitors to decide which is better for you. The samsung is perfect for me so far but I need to do more testing on it when my new parts come in.

it's funny you would think would have eliminated the dead pixel problem by now.. Viewsonic monitors seem to get them more than others from what I observe. Perhaps they need to spend more and not get the lower binned panels?

Thanks for the input. Still haven't decided whether to get it or not. I want it to last me for several years so I don't want to jump the gun.
