Hello,
I am new here and I have an issue.

I recently purchased the Samsung 205BW widescreen to use with my Parhelia 128MB. The card can support 1650x1050 resolution but whenever i power up and when it switches to the logon screen, I have to wait wait wait and many times i have to turn off and on the monitor to get it display. I don't know it's the monitor issue or driver issue>? I have no problem with 17" monitor.
Secondly if it's driver (already download the lastest driver) issue then what is the best AGP card for:
- 20" widescreen
- good for photo editing ( family photos)
- supports on both XP and linux
- DVI output(i guess most of them have it now).
- about $90-$120
- no hardcore game requires.

thanks.

Hello guys,
I have a chance to buy ATI video card with discount. which one do you recommend?

I am very much set the for AIW X800 XT. I like the features and price but I am afraid it compromises the performance. Is this one better than the Parhelia 128 and FX5900?
How about the X1600 PRO and X1300PRO?

Thanks.

If you're not playing too many intensive 3D games, I think the X800 would serve you fine. The main difference is that the X800 doesn't support shader model 2.0 while the x1600 does. The difference in RAM between the cards probably won't matter.
Video capture with the X800 in Linux might be iffy. In fact, linux support (in general) favors nvidia hardware. As far as image quality is concerned, both should be comparable.

edit: Compared with the Parhelia and 5900, the X800 and X1600 should be faster is most situations. Image quality on Matrox cards is supposed to be top notch, but with DVI everywhere, the differences usually come down to software features and configuration.

If you want Linux support, Nvidia is the heavily favored choice.
As for the X800XT AIW, it will still be a great deal faster than either the Parhelia, FX5900, or the X1600.

The price is the main factor. ATI vs nVidia is probably not applied in my case. As for linux, I just need it to support 1650x1050 resolution, no other features need. I am going to get teh AIW.
thanks.

If you are just running linux, then go with a cheap Nvidia card. The ATI card will probably a hassle. The AIW features almost definately do not work properly under linux.
