Samsung 204T vs. Dell 2001FP

Both of these monitors have similar price points right now. I would use these monitors for general internet use, non-full screen video/TV/movie watching and also gaming. Color accuracy is not a huge concern, but text quality and readability is. I had to return my 2005FPW because it was TOO bright, so hopefully these will offer something for me.

Anyway, just feeling out some thoughts. Hope you can help.

Well, I own the 204t and I must say the color accuracy and text quality are excellant. Using the magictune software you get different presets for gaming, text and internet use or you can set contrast/brightness yourself. Mine is set to 45 brightness / 75 contrast and it never strains my eyes and text is always clear and readable. My unit has very minimal (almost none) backlight bleeding and no pixel defects. Now as for gaming, I did notice a slight blur effect in some racing games but I had to look hard to see it, but that's the price you pay for 20.1".

I think that while this LCD is great... if I were buying all over again I'd rather have a cheaper 19" 8ms panel with PiP and some inputs like the 2001FP has. The 204T is more of a desktop only oriented panel, meaning static image quality is awesome, moving = not too good. I'd try the Dell.

Well of course, I'm not completely brain-dead. I had the brightness all the way down. The change does very little on the FPW

I had an 2001FP. So damned bright it was burning my eyeballs out. Sold it. I think the better one would be 204t which I was going to buy before the 2001fp came out and was so cheap. 204T was like 2 grand at the time though (well a lot more expensive than the Dell anyway). Sometimes a great price isnt so great. IMHO

I personally went back to a 21 inch CRT, Dell P1130. But what does that have to do with anything... LOL
