Hi folks,

My ancient Sceptre 19inch CRT is starting to bug my eyes and I want to replace it. Seems retailers aren't stocking CRTs anymore but I've found one locally that sells the Samsung 997MB 19in DynaFlat CRT for $260 CDN (seems cheap). Anyways, I can't seem to find out what refresh rates the CRT does at what resolutions. I downloaded the PDF manual from Samsung's website and it doesn't say there either. It just says max is 1600x1200 @ 75Hz and recommended 1280x1024 @ 85 Hz.

I want to be able to run at 100Hz at 1024x768 and 1152x864 and am hoping this monitor can do it. FYI this is for gaming purposes with VSync if anyone is wondering.

Anyone have this or a similar Samsung and can comment?

Thanks

VrHz = ((MaxHrkHz*1000)/HorizLines) * 0.95

The 997MB has these frequency ranges:
Horizontal: 30 ~ 96 kHz
Vertical: 50 ~ 160 Hz

Based upon this equation, here are the maximum vertical refresh rates:

1600x1200 @ 76 Hz
1280x1024 @ 89.0625 Hz
1280x960 @ 95 Hz
1152x864 @ 105.55 Hz
1024x768 @ 118.75 Hz
800x600 @ 152 Hz
640x480 @ 160 Hz (bottlenecked by maximum vertical frequency)

Hope that helps. BTW, you might need to use a program like PowerStrip to get to those refresh rates if they're not predefined in the monitor's firmware. But based on the specifications they should work fine.

Excellent, did not know that equation, thank you.

Manufacturer probably rounds them, but I'm sure it will do 100Hz at 1152 and 1024.

Thanks!

Update: Picked it up today. Very happy with it, $259 Canadian, text is razor sharp compared to my old piece of crap CRT, no longer feel like I'm going blind, colour is good and refresh rates are working as expected.

Also the footprint is much smaller than my old 19inch, and it is much lighter.
