I recently upgraded my monitor to Samsung 191T and after playing several rounds of Unreal Tournament 2000 I've noticed that this monitor has a pretty horrible ghosting in the game, which in many cases makes game virtually impossible to play. I have also tried Quake III and Need For Speed 4: High Stakes. Every game seems to have the same issue. Could it be the driver, the monitor itself or something else? Or maybe I just got the defective 191T?

The Samsung 191T exhibits horrible ghosting, especially in games with black. It's the monitor's fault, some notice it and too many just proclaim "There is NO GHOSTING AT ALL!!!! IF YOU SAY SO YOU SUCK!!"

I returned mine simply because I couldn't take the ghosting, especially in Unreal Tournament 2003. Check out the Starcraft Ghost website and just scroll, you'll see what I mean by black/white change ghosting.

The newer LCDs are supposed to be better, like the Hitachi 17 inch one but it's too small for my taste.

I got a 191T and absolutely love it.. I play a lot of first person shooters and notice no ghosting at all.. not to say it isn't there, but I don't notice it anymore.. I love it! One of the best purchases I ever made.

Are you using DVI or Analog? Some people say ghosting is less prevalent with DVI connections.

I have the 181T, basically just one inch smaller than the 191T...excellent monitor, I am using DVI on my Radeon 9700 Pro and find very little to no ghosting in games like Medaol of Honor Allied Assault, Unreal Tournmanet 2003, Nightfire, or Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2. I love this monitor! I was scared at first to get anLCD for gaming but the Samsung 181T has far surpassed my expectations, plus I've had the thing for almost a year now and not even one dead pixel...that goes to show you the quality of a Samsung LCD!

Ghosting is definitely more prevalent in older games that use darker/"drabber" color palettes. I think it has a lot to do with color/contrast ratios and pixel response when switching colors. Read some reports that some monitors are better in response time when switching between colors. This makes sense, as newer games might take full advantage of 32-bit color; more colors means less actual transition between intermediate colors. I play mostly newer games on my 1900FP and notice very little ghosting. It really depends on the overrall lighting of the scene (bright w/ backlight has no ghosting, dark will exhibit some ghosting).

I have the 191T. Older games like counterstrike, or really most anything based on the HL engine really ghost. I haven't noticed any problems with UT 2003, Q3, or any newer games. I still see ghosting from time to time, even in Tiger Woods 2003 when a blakc club swings, but I put up with it. DVI does help ghosting, as well as messing with the settings. I turned the brightness up and it didn't seem as bad. It's just something you'll have to live with if you want a 19" LCD. It's too expensive to make the 19" LCD's with teh faster displays, that's why the 17"'s are still over $600. I didn't buy this to game with though. I got it because my old 19" Viewsonic was on the fritz and I needed something easy on the eyes. It is great, I will never use a crt again, except at work and school because they are cheap. Once i build a new system with a DVI vid card, it should look even better.

I have a 191T and I use the DVI connection. What I have noticed is this: ghosting happens, but you do have control over how much occurs in a game , somewhat. If you run UT2003 at 1280x960 then ghosting is very obvious. If you play it at 1024x768 ghosting goes away to such a point I find it very tolerable. If you run a game that supports 1280x1024 at that resolution, ghosting is very little too. So basically the many games I've tried I've noticed that games look good w/less ghosting at the native resolution of the monitor (1280x1024)or 1024x768.

It seems this comparison of res/ghosting is most apparent in HL and Counter-Strike. (they support 1280x960 non native res, really nasty ghosting, lower it to 1024x768 and it goes away a lot)
