Well, first off, it's the Samsung 19" Perfect-Flat CRT Model 997DF. Picked it up at Best Buy about two weeks ago and used it for the first time on sunday. On to the problem.. everytime I turn it on, sometimes it won't turn on, and all the time, it pops really loud acouple of times and the screen flashes white.

Sounds like a bad monitor - this was an opened box, this was the only one they had there, and it was $20 less, so I went ahead and bought it, but now I guess I know why it was returned. This is something to worry about, correct? It's working fine after it turns on, but loud popping, not turning on, and it flashing white over and over has me worried.

Thanks for any and all help - hopefully this will be the last problem :(

It will be the last problem, assuming you don't have to pic shards of glass out of your face. :p

Return that thing before it blows up and demand at least a factory refurb model.

I picked up a Samsung 19" CRT a few months ago (I think its the 900DF model) to replace a dying Optiquest monitor. One think I've noticed is the Samsung is definately louder when it come to switching between resolutions. I would go as far to say it definately sounds like a pop.

I've also noticed that it appears to be switching resolutions multiple times in some cases. For example, my desktop is running at 1152x864 and with some games where the menu resolution is lower than that, the monitor "pops" and flashes multiple times before the game menu loads. I know that the pop and flashes are due to the resolution.
switch, but why twice or more? It's like it's cycling down through several resolutions before it finds the correct one.

However, I've never the monitor go white like you describe.

FYI: That's what CRTs do before they die. I wouldn't recommend leaving that thing plugged in or on while you're away from the house. I had one of those once that started smoking.

Wow, okay. Problem is, i'm pretty sure the receipt was mailed with the mail in rebate.. though i'm not 100% sure. It was pre-opened, so do you think they'll replace it, or will I have to go straight to Samsung?

Did you pay with cash or debit/credit? You can get a record from the latter.

Either way, I'd go back to the store.

Pretty sure it was a check, I can't recall now(Parents picked it up for me, since they were there anyway). It looks like it qualifies as a gift, since it was after the 1st of November, so hopefully that'll work. If not, i'll definitely be raising hell.. the salesman said "I guarantee you there are no hardware problems with this monitor", so meh. Guess i'll go call Best Buy..

Yes, replace it.

And Beast Buy won't help you since you don't have your receipt. :p

NEVER send the original receipt . . . . you could be SOL.

Well, called Best Buy, and was on hold for I don't even remember how long. On the hold recording, though, it mentioned something about if you paid with a check or credit card, they can reprint your receipt, so that's good. Aswell, the person I talked to said returning it for a replacement would be fine, and has one on hold for me. Hopefully that wasn't just bull to get me off the phone, though. Unfourtunately, I wouldn't have a tough time believing that with past experience from Best Buy.

Oh well, here's to hoping. Thanks abunch for the help everyone, hopefully it works out. That's the last time I buy something that's been opened =/
