Fry's B&M in Los Angeles and apparently other cities too has the Samsung 1710 Laser printer for $200-$50 instant and -$50 MIR for a yield of $100. But there is a rebate PDF on the Outpost site that's good at Fry's that is for $70 IF you also buy a matching toner on the same receipt! This could be a good combo. Not sure what they charge for toner. This is a YMMV but check you local Fry's. It's good through July 8.

I have the 1430 that this replaced and think it's a great little printer. Nice and fast and great text quality. Graphics are average, but hey, it's a laser. I have a Canon photo printer for graphics! All my regular printing goes to the laser anyway, way cheaper to maintain.

So sick of clicking on deals only to find out they're at Frys. :disgust:

Hey - I just picked one up. The rebate appears to be from the manufacturer, though I'm not sure? It's definitely not a fry's rebate, since other stores are listed as vaild purchase locations for the money back...

the only problem i c here is that when u buy a laser for 100 dollars, besides the lack of expandability, it gets ridiculous to replace the toner when it costs at least on avg more than 50 dollars. like - i have the brother hl-1240 which i can buy new for under 100 dollars which comes with new toner or replace the toner for 100 dollars...

So wheres the problem? If you'd rather get a new printer rather than get a toner cartridge, then go for it. If it's easier for you to replace the cartridge, then do that. There's no problem=).

well that's how the manufacture make money off a printer. by selling cartridges.. not the printer itself...

you can't have everything in your way .. ;)

Bought one of these 1710's 3 weeks ago and loved it. But yesterday it simply died. Very inconvenient. I suspect it has a very poor quality power supply. I replaced it with the Brother hl1440, which seems more rugged and costs the same. The Brother has a much higher capacity toner cartidge (3k starter toner compared to the Samsung 1k starter). Replacement toner for the Brother is a 6k unit for less money than the Samsung replacement, which has half the capacity.

The replacement toner probably is good for more prints than the one that comes with the printer. Thats how it works a lot of times.
And don't you see something wrong when buying four replacement razor cartridges costs more than buying the razor with two cartridges? Its just how they make all their money. People want cheap stuff, so they get it. The effect is that the upkeep is expensive.

I can get it for that price where live - Atlanta - no Fry's yet ( so it it is about $ 50 more at OD after promotions . Overall, the Samsung laser engine ( used by other laser manufacturers too ) is better than the Brother laser engine and I don't like the 2 piece cart /drum concept - I have seen too many drums in far less number of pages the say it will last . As comparing the ML 1710 Samsung to the HL 1440 , I would go for the Samsung .
