If you've looked around, you'll see that its hard to find a good 15" LCD that does 1280x1024 resolution.

However, Samsung has one, and it has a bunch of extra features as well -- such as two video inputs so that you ca hook up items such as VCRs and DVD Players. (And a remote control too!)

Gateway / NecxDirect has it for $819.95 (click here)

They also have a $70 off $699 coupon floating around, bringing this puppy down to 749.95. And if you go through Gateway to order it, you'll get free shipping too.

If you want a bigger size, they have the Samsung 770TFT for 1049.95 - $70 = 979.95 (here)

I've ordered the 150mb, and I'll post a message after I get it.

(oh yea, NecxDirect has a decent return policy just in case this thing sucks).

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the native resolution might be 1024x768 and the 1280x1024 support is scaled. Even Samsung mentions on their site that 1024x768 is recommended. I say this because I have the 150MP (same as 150MB but also has TV tuner and remote control) which has a dot pitch of .297 and it only does 1024x768. The 150MB has the same dot pitch. If you want to research it yourself, Samsung's specs for this unit can be found here.

That being said, it's still a great monitor. Very bright and steady as a rock despite being analog-only. Can't beat a 3 year backlight, parts & labor warranty either.

I imagine the 1280x1024 is scaled, but if its as good as the HP laptop my company uses that can do 1450x????, then its going to be sweet! (and the HP LCD is a 15 inch) -- one sweet omnibook!

Blount,

I'm proud to say that I scored my 150MP for $775, and that was before I even discovered the Hot Deals Forum <g>. In October/November of last year it was $922 shipped at ChaseShop.com (other dealers wanted about $100 more so I think it may have been entered incorrectly in their system) and they were offering a 5% discount if you signed up for their Platinum Visa, so that brought the price down to $875. Then Samsung had a $100 rebate on it which made it $775.

Best price right now seems to be $839 at CDW, but the rebate isn't available any longer.

Not a hot deal? I would say that if you could save $70.00 and get free shipping that it would be a hot deal, especially considering the lack of good deals lately -- especially if you were in the market for one of these.

I also have a 150MP. Nice colors & quite bright. I have to say, though, despite what I have read, it's not as good as a DVI monitor.

Sitting right next to the Samsung is a 15" DVI LCD (Gateway FPD1500) that cost only $400 on e*ay (they have tons of them). It is not as bright as the samsung and the colors are a little off, but it is sharper.

The real value comes when you need to stare at the screen for while. The analog samsung makes my eyes tire, but I could look at the digital gateway for hours with no fatigue.

I'm sure the DVI is nice but can you really put a price on the look people get when you hit the remote control and TV comes on instead of a PC display? Well, I suppose you can put a price on that and it's about $3-400. ;)

Seriously, I think the ones with analog and digital inputs are the best of both worlds. Samsung could have easily added a digital input to this for a few bucks that would have future-proofed it AND made it appeal to a broader audience. They could probably be controlling the 15" high-end LCD market by now.
