Havent checked prices lately but saw the following at SAMS Club today

$1100 from $1700

Dont know why it was the only model marked down.

Hewlett Packard P4 1.3 Ghz
128 meg
HP DVD 12x
HP CD 8x writer, dont remember the rest
80 gig hd
17 monitor with detachable speakers
TNT video card, 32 meg I think

hey its a tnt2 PRO. my dad works at the company that repairs them. most consumers could care less. the ram is pc600 too, well at least when that model launched it was.

Hey, take it easy on Hans007. He said "most consumers could care less". We, here on AT, are not "most consumers". Therefore, this is only a hot deal for "most consumers". Should probably update the title to say "Deal on P4 if you are too dumb or lazy to build your own and only want to do word processing and spreadsheets anyway".

I found a a few P4 - 1.7 - 512 Ram - 80 Gig - CDRW - DVD - Gforce3 - Soundcard - and 17" LCD monitors for $2,000 on Ebay...how much could I realistically build one for?

dude, people, quit your complaining about the TNT...you don't honestly believe that EVERYONE on this hot deals forum needs a GeForce3 just because YOU do!??...it's not like you couldn't swap in your choice of graphics cards once you buy the system. Dang.

<< TNT card on a P4. Shame on HP >>

The correct statement is P4 on a TNT card. Shame on HP

First, a generic TNT video card with 32 MB is a great card if you're not a super-speed gamer, and all you need is great video rendering and great compatiblity.

Second, a P4 that requires RAMBUS is a suck investment, regardless.

Third, as others have pointed out, for that money, you can easily build a better machine with a better selection of components.

Rather than waste that much dough on a hi powered processor with underpowered components, build one yourself using these componentsfor 1/2 the price and probably better performance. If you can snap pieces together and load Windows from scratch, then you are qualified.
