Reaaaaaaallllllyyyyyyyyyyy?

I don't think so. If they did that around here the ranching community would rally with pitchforks and torches and go Angry Townsfolk vs Frankenstein's Monster on them.

I know they've gotten sort of iffy about using AmEx. Apparantly they (AmEx) started requiring you to input your zip code to use the card, but if you put it in wrong and try to cancel it the machine sends it anyway and then you wind up having to call AmEx to fix it. Grrrrr....

a) this is worthless without any link to back it up
b) This site makes me believe that it will be HIGHLY UNLIKELY that Wal-mart stops taking mastercard.

You have it half right. Wal-Mart is not accepting MasterCard DEBIT cards because of the massive fees they were forced to swallow. They even filed an antitrust lawsuit a little while ago against MC and Visa for basically forcing higher debit card fees for merchants that accept the networks' credit cards. Walmart will continue to accept Visa debit as well as Visa/MC credit cards.

The skinny, 12/3/03

Can you imagine the whiplash if Wal-Mart, one of the largest U.S. merchandise retailers, stopped accepting CREDIT cards?!?

Found this, which states that Wal-Mart will no longer take Mastercard signature-based DEBIT cards (i.e., check cards). You can still use the same cards if you enter your PIN# and run it through as a debit transaction.
