Hi!

For those of you who've read my posting about which CPU to buy for S@H...

Today I've bought a P3-700 and oc'ed it to 952MHz (136MHz FSB, CAS3).
This baby does a WU in almost exactly the same time as my Cel667@950 (95MHz FSB, CAS2).

The only reason for this I can imagine is the CAS3 vs. CAS2 thingie ...

is there a faster client then v2.70GUI ???

The CL 2.4 and the gui 2.04 are both faster. I think that the 2.76 client is a little better than 2.7. Also, one work unit doesn't tell the story, you need to try a couple to be sure (unless you're crunching the same WU for benchmarking).

CAS2 and CAS3 does make a difference.

Wu times vary greatly with v2.7 and up. So unless you ran the same wu then that's what the problem should be. The Via chipsets are slower than the BX as well so this could be the problem if your running a via. Cas does make a difference but the P3 should smoke the Celery2 due to the bus speed.

Magic Man v2.76 is slower than v2.7. It shouldn't be too much longer until v3.0 finally comes out and then we can get a better idea of which cpu's will be the most cost effective.

You don't want the 2.76 GUI. It's slower than the 2.4 CLi and the 2.04 GUI. 🙁

I started it on my system, a PII-400 which normally takes 8 +/- 0.5 hours to complete a WU with CLi 2.0. When I tried V2.70, it did some WUs in ~7hrs, and some in ~9. V2.76 did its first WU in 10.5hrs, and I'm now finishing up an 11.5hr WU just because it was half done.

If you really want it, though, an unofficial download site is here.
