Same workgroup, different Internet connections?

Got a friend who is trying DSL since Adelphia cable has [Darth Vader] ...failed me for the last time... [/Darth Vader]. He has cable internet access for another 4 months however. Equipment-wise he has a WRT54GS that is working right now with his cable connection, 2 desktops, and 2 wireless laptops. He has a spare BEFSR41 to use. I was thinking he should leave his current router as-is and connect the BEFSR41 to run his DSL. Network the two routers together. Then set up static IP's and set up the Gateway on each PC to correspond with the IP of the router/connection that he wants each computer to use. Would that work? Or is there a better/easier way to have them on the same workgroup for windows file-sharing purposes yet get use out of both net connections?

Thanks!

Patch cable from switch port on one router to a switch port on the other. If the ports are not autosensing then you might need a crossover cable. Each machine and Router would need to have the same local address scheme. 192.168.1.x for instance. You could also use NetBEUI for file transfers if you had to. But yes it will work.
