not for me (i don t like 1070 and 980ti)

- both custom design
- same price:430 euro (new at the same store)
- no overclock

1070 has 2gb more vram ------> is there something else to consider?

Yes there is. The 1070 is faster, better DX12 support (and drivers down the road). Also consumes a lot less power.

No reason to buy a 980Ti for the same price.

I don't know about faster. A 980ti overclocked is within 10% or less of a 1080.

Yea, but the 1070 has some overclocking room as well, does it not? I would agree with Davey. Especially with nVidia, go with the newer platform for better/longer driver support.

The 980 ti has hit it's limit while the 1070 will improve over time more with future releases and the tech that is out there and on it's way.

It's one thing if the 980 ti was a decent price below the 1070 but for the same price it's clear to grab a 1070.

I would go for the GTX 1070. More future proof. For now, the GTX980TI may seem to win when overclocked. But i expect that will not be so in 3 months from now.

Good point, we don't know how bad maxwell could fall off, could be another kepler.

The only real architecture change over Maxwell with Pascal were purely to increase the clock-speeds.

Though I still don't doubt that Nvidia will stop supporting Maxwell as of the next driver release.

- no oc

3 on 4 only talking about oc-potential

Sorry, but I dont get not at least trying to moderately overclock a gpu. It is so easy, just moving a few sliders on a downloaded program like MSI afterburner or whatever the best overclocking tool is for the particular card you buy. I would not necessarily try for max OC, like adding voltage and such, but for a mild overclock, it is just free performance. If it crashes with overclocking, just back off to stock.

If you already have a 980TI, keep it. Buying new? I'd go with the 1070, even though when OC'd the 980TI is faster, unless you can grab a nice used one for cheap.

Since they're so similar, they really can't w/o hobbling Pascal as well. It's not like it was with Kepler.

used ones were 300 for reference, dropped another 50-100$ when retail new AIB 980 TI dropped down to 400$

used 980 ti are now 300 or lower if you are in the market for one. if you paid 400$ or more for a used 980 ti u got boned.

Give it a few months, all the new games will run much better on Pascal. Already seen it with Mirror's Edge.

Just think back to the 780Ti vs 970 situation. The 780Ti even beat the 970 when the 970 was launched.

Thats an easy one...since you dont want to oc then the gtx 1070 is the one to get...is about 10-15% faster compared to a gtx 980ti, has more vram, uses less watts, more features...

1070, no contest. 2GB more VRAM, 100W less, same performance. Better features in VR etc.

what is happening in 3 months?

Are you referring to software updates or future 1080 models?

Links to these 980 TIs that sold for $300 or lower, not counting ebay auctions that haven't finished yet? I'll wait...

What monitor do you plan to use, you might run into the flaw in the 1070/80 cards...

If the monitor issue isn't a problem, then I would tend to go with something newer like the 1070, if those are your only options.

Since they're so similar, they really can't w/o hobbling Pascal as well. It's not like it was with Kepler.

Well there are two parts to it:

1. Not having proper game ready drivers for Maxwell cards

2. Putting features into Gameworks games that gimp Maxwell cards

Kepler had both things going against it, while I think Maxwell with only have 1.

For the 980 ti number 1 doesn't matter, but something like the 970 (which requires game specific memory optimizations to avoid the 3.5 GB problem being a problem) its a huge deal.
