Same Hardware different temperatures

Hello,
My pal has an exactly same computer excluding the GPU.
I've installed CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO on his computer two days ago, and because I liked the performance, I bought the same for me.

Hardware

CoolerMaster CM 690 II Advanced
ASUS P8P67 PRO
Intel i5-2500K *STOCK*
2x4 GB Corsair Dominator 1600MHz
MSI GTX560 Ti TwinFrozr II/ OC (he has Asus 6950)

Both computers win7 x64

Well, I installed the cooler on his PC, with room temperature 23oC and the reading in CoreTemp were 29oC when idle, and 52oC with prime95 after 8mins.

Today I installed it on mine, but I get 36oC when Idle (room temp 22oC) and 62oC with prime95.

I also updated the asus bios to latest ver.

Asus AI Suite reports 25oC when idle, which can't be right.

Do you have any ideas on what maybe wrong? (cabling is pretty clean in both cases)

Could be the TIM or just the way it is. No two cpu's are alike although they are similar. Vcore under load is same on both chips? Might be worth a looks to see.

yes exactly the same.

It's really weird. and generally from what I've seen, my temps are not usual for this setup

edit: the only difference I can think is the application of thermal paste. I used the X method on mine, but on his line method

There is always variation from part to part.

I don't know if this is still the way it's done, but some years ago, CPU OEMs would produce a run of chips, then test them individually, and clock them according to what the individual chip was capable of. As a result, you could have two chips that came off the production line right next to one another, but chip A would be clocked and sold as, say, a 1.5 GHz part, while chip B might be clocked and sold as a 1.8 GHz part.

I'm not a CPU expert but my guess is one is a better chip than the other, do you know how they overclock compared to each other? One probably has more leakage and thus more heat.

As someone who basically does statistics all day (like many other engineers)

There are varying degrees of same-ness.

I am glad for this, as if there weren't I would have to do something other than get paid $50 an hour to apply sesame street logic (one of these things is not like the others!)... okay, well it may be a little more complicated than that :) .

The first thing I'd do is use a program measuring delta to Tj to make sure it's not a software issue.
Second thing is checking TIM / HSF installation.
If that does nothing, chalk it up to natural random variation.

A few questions/points

1. Are you measuring the ambient temp with the same thermometer in both rooms.

2. Are you quoting the temperatures from the exact same piece of software.

3. Your temps are high definitely, it is about 26-27C in the room im in and OC'd to 4ghz @1.27V I can't get above 56C in prime (althoughj I have a reasonably agressive fan profile set and most likely have more case cooling than you do.

4. On that note do both rigs have the same number of fans, the same fan profile set and roughly the same amount of airflow avaliable.

1. Different thermometer was used for the room temp.
2. Temperatures were measured using CoreTemp
3. Standard Profile used in BIOS for both computers, for all fans, case and cpu
4. Exactly same case. Front 140mm intake, Rear 120mm exhaust, Top 140mm exhaust. All (or the majority of it) cabling directed from the right side of the case. His VGA card is a bit longer.
