Samba Server and Win2k Problem

Right now I'm running Samba server on my linux machine and this adds the linux machine to my network. My 98 machine can log on to the linux machine fine but when I try to log on to it from my Win2k Server it says it can't. I don't even get a logon windows it says "Network path not found" Not very helpful. The problem is I can log on to it on my 98 machine at exactly the same time it's saying this on my win2k machine. Plus my Win2k machine can logon to my 98 machine no problem. And when I go to ping the Linux machine from my Win2k machine it says destination unreachable. As if it can't find it at all.

Can someone please help me to get them to talk to each other.

If the win2k machine cannot ping the linux machine you are having more problems than just a bad samba config. Can your win98 machine ping the linux machine? Did you set up ipchains/iptables? What version of Samba are you using (earlier versions will not work with win2k since Microsoft bastardized kerberos)?

Should I go and download a newer version?

I think (that is a very important word) that v2.2 (TNG?) was win2k compatible. Check out the site and see what they say about it.

you have to them to ping first then worry about the other stuff

the latest stable version is 2.2.0a

but be warned it won't work with win2k service-pack2 it is fixed in CVS though

2.2.1 will be the next stable release to work with SP2

I did mention the ping thingy, but thanks for backing me up. Both on that and on the samba version. I dont play with Samba much...
