Salvaging documents on crashed drive.

Alright so this computer at work all of a sudden crashed and won't detect the harddrive anymore. I was wondering if there is any way i could possibly try to retrieve some of the data manually. Thanks in advance.

if you have the software, first thing to try and do is either back it up (ghost etc) or try loading it up as slave and get stuff off....but if it's not being seen, you may just have a dead drive on your hands.

I'm sure some other people on here may have some better utils....so I'll shutup now... 😉

The things is, I can hear the harddrive spin up and it sounds fine. However, it will not be detected, I might be SOL but I just want to make sure before I give up on it.

Well, the harddrive is definatley shot, but I was able to hook it up as a slave to my other system and luckily enough, when windows booted, it was detected and I was able to pull of the files I needed. Thanks for effort.

Sure it's not the controller on the mobo of the original system?

if not then it's probably the electronics of the drive itself and not the media.

For future reference there is software that can recover a large amount of data from dead and/or damaged drives. But it costs a lot of money.

Its not the controller, I tried hooking it up as a master to another computer and it wouldn't detect. Its fuxed. Oh well. Not my money 😀
