Salvaging current hard drive to a new computer via USB ?

My motherboard has went bad. My current hard drive was partitioned to consist of a C: and D: . Can I remove this hard drive, mount it in an external enclosure, and hook it up to a new computer via USB cable ? Will the current C: and D: label automatically become new drive letters ? Any complications ?

Thanks !

Yes, you can hook it up via a USB enclosure with no problems. The drive letters will be reassigned when you attach them to the other PC but other than that you should have no issues. The drive letters will be pushed back by an amount determined by how many partitions and other physical drives you already have. If you have one partition C: and a DVD drive D: then when you connect the old hard drive via USB it should show up as E: and F:.
