Salvaged (2) 32-port 10/100 switches -- won't work

Salvaged 2 32-port switch/hub things ("32-port Dual Speed Hub, integrated 10/100 switch"), D-link DSH-32. I power it on, plug in cable into random port... and get no LEDs lighting up. If I plug it in to one of the two uplinks, the LED pops on, but windows still says I'm not connected. All other ports don't give me a link. Same thing happens on the other switch.

Is there anything I'm missing, or are these trash? (They were being given away as-is, so they may be DOA, but I'd hate to trash these if I can make some use of them.)

Hi,

Can you just clarify - are you plugging a single cable into the hub at any one time? What happens if you plug your internet connection into the uplink and then plug a pc into another port?

Good luck,

Andy
