Salt Water Fishes

if you are asking this question, you might be better off starting with a fresh water tank.

Salt water requires more equipment (more $$$) that you usually don't need for freshwater...(better lighting, filtration, Protein skimmer, etc)...

also, the livestock (fish, corals, etc) tends to be more expensive, so if you don't have any experience with keeping a tank, you might be flushing your money down the toilet literally.

but to answer your question, my 55 gallon salt tank has been running over 7 years now...

I did fresh water tanks for 5 years before that...

Lot more money to get setup. But the fish that you can get for them are awsome. But then again the fish also cost more.

Get freash water down first. Plus in general you need a lot bigger tank for saltwater unless you want to check levels every hour or so.

It depends on the fish, just like for fresh water fish. Some of the groupers and lion fish are extremely easy to care for, if you can supply the right foods. $$$ is the word. If youwant to get into this, do a lot of reading first.
