Anyone know anything about salt water aquariums?

My friend just got a new anemone for his tank, and it died in like 5 days. What might cause that to happen? Before that one he had another one that lived for a long time. It died because of poor water quality, but he has since cleaned up the water quality to make sure a new one would survive.

not enough light, short acclimilation period, bad pick at the store, poor water quality, could be anything.

He's had the tank for a while, so he knows how to make sure the water is ok. Also the people at the store were the ones to recommend the lighting... Maybe he's just unlucky.

- Make sure the store he buys stuff from has good / clean sources. Some smaller shops don't make sure their coral and new fish are "clean."
- What else is in the tank?
- How long has he had the tank?
- Check the pH and salinity
- Keep all the mineral supplements and chems current.

I've heard that some less than reputable suppliers use toxic chemicals (cyanide?) to "stun" the fish so that they can catch them easier...apparently these have a nasty habit of dying shortly after you take them home...

When I was in the fish "scene" the pro's always recommended keeping anemone's and such in separate tanks from the fish.
Also a biological filter is recommended.

Personally, I had Exotic Cichlids (brackish water) as I did'nt want to invest the $$$ in marine fish. But if I ever do it again I'll have a full salt water tank.
