I'm planning on getting a salt water aquarium, but need to know what should be done if I'm going out on vacation for a week or longer. My parents don't like the idea of giving the keys to the house to someone

If you can't get anyone to come over to take care of your fish, here's the things I would recommend:

Automatic timers on your lights.
Timed fish feeders.

Honestly, if you're only gone for a week, that would be about all you'd need.

You have no trust worthy friends? How sad.

Haha, we have people we leave keys with sometimes just incase, but my parents like to avoid having someone else come in and out while we're gone

Is that all for a salt water aquarium?

Also, you're going to need an automated way to top-off the aquarium with fresh water. Remember, water evaporates, salt does not. So you need to top-off with fresh water, or the salinity will rise, and start killing things off.

I recommend a float switch from Autotopoff.com. I would suggest getting the double float-switch model, which can protect against the main float failing. I use the double float-switch in-sump model for the sump on my reef tank. Of course you'll need a container with fresh water, and a something to pump the water into the tank. A powerhead, or a TAM Aqua-Lifter pump (what I use) works well for this.
