Salary Negotiation

I asked for "in the range of $40k."
To be honest, I have no clue what the going salary is, but all I know is that it's for a
PC Support / Network Support / Help Desk / Web Master. Basically, the person will be wearing many different hats.

I make $31K now so anything above $40k will be good, but at the same time, I'm not sure if I lowballed myself.

I would'nt expect any more

most of my friends that got offered IT jobs were offered < 35K

if the position requires a CS or EE/CE degree it might be different or many years of experience than you can expect ~ 45+ i would say

Well the good thing is, I asked him over the phone what the salary range would be and he stated "Well what range did you put down on the questionnaire." Then I thought, ok "what i wrote down must be in their range or else he wouldn't have called."

So not too bad. All I know and can hope for is a higher salary than what I'm doing now. What will be tough is going backwards since I'm the one in charge of 10 servers and hundreds of desktops, but I'm making chump change. If i am offered the position, the boost in salary is well-worth it.
