Salary.com...how accurate is it really?

I may have to take a job about 2 hours away. I checked salary.com to see what the average pay is for my job in that area of my state and I was just curious how accurate it is from those that have used it.

You're considering taking a job, but you don't know how much it pays? That would be one of the first things I'd inquire about.

Well basically it gives you the bell curve of salary range. That's a pretty good range to go by. The thing your trying to figure out is where you fall in that range. You can be anywhere in that range based on your idiocy, or whether you have a moleh moleh moleh moleh on your face. Just depends. (yeah i know bad austin powers joke)

Remember if you look at janitorial pay in redmond seattle the low range could be in the mcdonalds, and the high range could be at microsoft. The company matters too.

Actually I have a few options within my company one of them is to relocate, the salary range is VERY broad for this position (35k-72k) according to my HR guy and he could not give me a solid figure. So I was doing some preliminary research to try to narrow it down a bit before I have to interview for this position.
