i used to eat both salads and veggies everyday. but i got tired of salads and just ate veggies (peas/brocoli/carrots/etc).

What does salad (ie: Romaine) do for the human body?

green vegetables (as lettuce, endive, or romaine) and often tomatoes, cucumbers, or radishes served with dressing b : a dish of meat, fish, shellfish, eggs, fruits, or vegetables singly or in combination usually served cold with a dressing
2 : a green vegetable or herb grown for salad; especially : LETTUCE
3 : a usually incongruous mixture

ruffage is good for you as it is undigestible by your stomach. Instead it serves to clean your digestive system....like a broom:D

lettuce and such in the salad is just roughage. It has very little nutritional value but has fiber and stuff in it.

Veggies on the other hand have lots of nutritional stuff in them

salads are nice and can have good goat cheese and balsamic vinegar or fancy walnut dressings on them!

Yep, and certain salad dressings are tasty.. :)

Mini OT rant: Am I the only one who's annoyed by restaurants that serve salad with leaves that look like they were picked off of plants out back behind the building? When I eat a salad, I want to eat lettuce, not leaves. Anyone with me?

as I continue to poke a pencil in my eye trying to cease all brain function.

Salad = veggies in a certain type of presentation.

Romaine has vitamins....veggies have vitamins.....Romaine is a veggie. No difference.

veggies are vegetables.. you realize that right? and everything in a salad (unless you put meat in it) is a vegetable... veggies = vegetables = salad... some vegetables don't have as high a nutritional value as others.. ie, iceburg lettuce has absolutely no nutritional value as far as vitamins goes.. but it (as most vegetables) has a lot of fiber, and since your body cannot digest it, you crap it straight out... now, "veggies" as you call them, are cooked vegetables.. this can sometimes be good or bad.. you can actually cook the vitamins and good stuff out of a vegetable, so that can also be bad..

lol...i'm just screwed up by the nutritional triangle where it says u should east x salads/day and have x veggies/day.

i mean what if i dont eat romaine and just eat other veggies (peas, brocolli, carrots, etc)?

You can leave out the salad and eat fiberous veggies.

Most people have not problem eating salads, but gawk at peas and beans, etc...

They used to not make a distinction on the pyramid for salads vs veggie...they are probably doing it now because many people don't think of a 'tasty' salad as getting your servings for veggies.

I'm with you. Our cook started serving us this last year. I was like, wtf? Are those dandelion leaves? Some of the stuff looked like weeds from the back yard.
