Saints' Kyle Turley threatens to sue NFL

Even though I'm sure he's already obscenely rich, I see his point of view. He is not suing for absurd 'damages' only for his money back. I would agree with this lawsuit.

Yeah, I agree completely....and as for him "not throwing it at anybody", look at the way Turley threw it, you think he was aiming, ref? Good call on Turley's behalf.

I agree 100%. And I am one of those people that thinks that 99.9% of all "professional" athletes are overpaid, underworked, whiney-babies.

Fair is fair. If I paid $25K, everyone should have to pay $25K.

The NFL refuses to discipline on a consistent basis. The whole Sapp controversy proved that.

I'd like to see Clifton sue Sapp. I'm sure it wouldn't take long for a WI jury to find him guilty and liable for damages.

Although I cringe at the use of a lawsuit to settle a sports call, he has a good point, and he's only going to sue for his fines back.

Turley is a really cool guy, BTW. I met him at a benefit he put on for 9/11 at HOB here. His band played, and then he walked around and chatted with lots of people in the club. Really nice, level-headed guy. Talked with him about surfing for awhile. He's a completely different person than the one on the field.

Hmm, Turley has a point. They're just words at this point though. I probably would have taken my oral arguments to the league before I took them to ESPN.

BTW Dedpuhl, Big Tymers rock!

Just words? LOL. I wouldn't put anything past Turley. That's why he is the man!

He's suing the wrong organization. The Saints issued the fine, not the NFL. At least, that's according to Kornheiser and Wilbon 🙂

I definitely agree with Turley. Anyone who rips off someone else's helmet deserves to be ejected, fine, and made to take anger management classes.

I agree with him %100...

Kyle Turley is a football god. If I had to pick any one person backing me up it would be him.. If he wasn't a O linesman he would be the most popular football player right now..

I think he's ticked off because the guy wasn't ejected or told to attend anger management classes...

What the heck did Sapp have to do with this discusion. Sapp (think of him what you want) is a great player. Did he do something against the rule of the game? Nope! think about it... would he have not continued to play and the guy that had the ball made another brake but get stoped by the guy that got leveled... well guess who would have been first on blaming Sapp for not playing 100% of the time?!
So let it reast already!

Descression of the official will win the day here for the NFL. Not only were there different officals at different games, each incident calls for the offical to make a judgement call.

If hitting a guy on a blind side, causing him to become injured and lose work is within the rules of a game, maybe the rules of law should be applied instead. See what a jury says.

OJ cutting off his wife's head was ok to a bunch of dumb jurists in LA, but another jury decided he should still be held financially responsible for her death. Just because you get away with something doesn't mean you can't be sued for the damage you caused.

I wouldn't think he was thinking at the time "Well here is an opportune time to viciously clobber this dude from his blind side so I can cause him to be injured seriously and be out of work." More like "."

This is football not table tennis.

The Vikings/Packers game was/is proof that the officiating in the NFL is crap...

Ya, but if Forest Gump ran to the other side of the table and embedded his ping pong paddle in the side of some guys head during a match, he could be sued for the damage he caused. He didn't break any ping pong rules, but he's stull liable.

hope turley wins. maybe then they will get some consistant rules for the NFL.

i thinmk we have beat the sap play into submission. OK he is a cheap bastard who takes cheap shots. was it against the rules? nope. But i have no respect for the guy (like he cares).

but do we really need to bring the bastard up every time there is a football post?

I hope you are kidding if you think OJ didn't do it.

Did Sapp mean to injure the guy? I don't think so!
Was it legal hit acording to the rules of the game? Yes!
Is Football a sport where injuries occure quite frequently? Yes!
If you a proffesional player, on the field of play while the clock is running should you be prepared to take a hit? You'd better!

Now... did I like to see someone hurt... NO WAY! Do I feel sorry for the Guy? You BET! Do I think we need to adjust the rules... NO please not again! It is a contact sport... if you don't like to get hurt... like I don't... don't play it and make your money sitting at a desk!

If Marty McSorley can be found guilty of assault in court for whacking a guy (Brashear) with a stick, Sapp can be found liable for damages for a cheap-shot hit.

Brashear was able to fully recover and play just a few weeks after his injury, which is better than Clifton.

Of course, it will never happen, but it would nice to see Sapp get some sort of just punishment.
