Sager Np8690

Just a generic question or two for people who know more than I.

I am thinking of purchasing the new Sager np8690 through XoticPC and was wondering if there are any aftermarket solutions for using a slot loading blu-ray drive and removing the current disc tray drive in the computer.

Also, is the Intel X-25 SSD going to be the best MLC SSD or are there better alternatives speed-wise? (Not including SLC because they are much more expensive even for smaller drives)

Thank you all in advance!

My understanding is that the intel X-25M G2s are the fastest MLC drives on the market. The Indilinx SSDs are quite close those, and so you can save a little bit of money that way if that interests you.

Newegg has quite a few slim drives but only a few blu-ray. I haven't noticed any aftermarket slot loaded drives, but if you do find one I would expect that it will not match your laptop case. With the tray type drives you can just take the plastic piece of your OEM drive and viola, it matches. Also make sure they video card decodes blu-ray. I'm guessing this won't be a problem for a newer Sager but I have an Alienware that's a couple years old and my 7950 SLI is no help so my new blu-ray drive is almost useless. The processor can't decode most movies by itself.

Just out of curiosity, what is the appeal of the SSD's? I understand access times are very fast but aren't transfer speeds still slower than disk drives?
