I turned my notebook (np8886 I think) and the three rightmost LEDs (Above
the keyboard) stay lit, the screen remains black, and the system
unresponsive. I tried removing the tiny battery under the keyboard, and
the battery, and the power cord. I left it for about a minute then put
those things back in, when I turned it on the same thing happened as
above, except it would turn off a second or two after I turned it on. I
hear a slight hissing sound, but smell nothing, when there is a power cord
plugged in, whether the system is on or not..

More information:

I have tried connecting another monitor (external) , same thing happens,
also the hard drive LED is never active (the three leds that are
constantly lit are capslock, numlock, and scrlock, I think) , the system
seems to hang, after a few checks of the hard drive and cd drive (you can
hear them being activated) Also about the computer turning off quickly
afterwards, I think that was because I was trying to run it off of a dying
battery, and heat was not the cause, the fans seem to be working. Again, There is
a slight hissing sound when the power cord is plugged in, don't know if
that was there before, quiet enough so when the computer is on it cannot be heard. I also tried a fn+esc suspend key, but that doesn't seem to work... (not sure about this though since my keyboard may be
damaged)

I've also heard that this might be a problem with the hardware not being able to reset itself? Any ideas?

It certainly could be a bad motherboard. Try it without the hard drive and cdrom, if possible.

I've tried it without a hard drive, no difference, I haven't tried it without a CD drive, I don't have a screwdriver. I've reset the cmos I think (removing the tiny battery, main battery, and power cord) still same problem...

edit: I've looked in the manual but found nothing about LED's on and system not working, except that the system might be in suspend mode, I've tried pushing the FN-Esc key to get out of this, like I said, but not sure since my keyboard may not be working correctly (shift key depressed automatically sometimes) or whether I plugged the keyboard back into the motherboard correctly (I usually use an external keyboard, but no function key on it)

I've tried reseating the memory, and a 'hard reset' (holding the power button down for more than twenty seconds to clear the bios, but I think is the same thing done when you just remove the bios battery under the keyboard) still no fix, still looking to get a screwdriver to open it up..

any new ideas?
