Safety Question

I have an evga n41 sli mobo.

It has 4 (3 pin) onboard fan connectors. 1 is for cpu fan, 1 is for northbridge fan.

So that leaves me with two fans that I use for exhaust on my P180 case. They are both 120mm fans. I want to use another 120mm fan for the front intake slot. I would be splitting a fan connection on the mobo between two 120mm fans.

My question, is this safe for my computer? I don't want to short it with all these 120's.

Thanks in advance.

Get a fan controller. I woulnd't use the fan headers on a motherboard for a single 120mm fan, much less two (although I probably have heavier loaded fans than what you'll be using).

If you are dead set on doing this, e-mail tech support for the manufacturer of your mobo, and ask them the amperage / wattage that the fan headers on the motherboard can support. My Supermicro X5DAE server mboo handles 1.5 amps per header, but I'm sure my Asus C2D mobo handles much less. Ask them to find out for sure. Also, keep in mind that all fans' starting amps is higher than the amps while running.

It's actually completely safe to split a fan connection. Just make sure the wires are insulated well. But if you really want a fan controller, compusa actually sells a simple one for like 6 bucks. It has 3 additional fan headers so it's all good... Also has couple of USB connections on it so you can add more USB connections...
