Oh, and just because 2005 appears to be the first year that AnandTech in general has heard of these displays, they've been around quite a while.

Not just AT. In previous years you know what's "IN" by what gets forwarded to your inbox around the holidays. (elf bowling anyone?) I've must've had this link and story come to my inbox at least twenty times a day since the middle of November like a darn virus! Of course I am subscribed to several groups with ladies that forward everything...

Now that EVERYONE with an email address has seen this display, you can bet they will get popular.

I know, I know.

Popular, but how many people out there are willing to:
a) learn to use the software
b) fork over hundreds of dollars for lights
c) fork over hundreds of dollars for energy usage
d) fork over a couple hundred dollars for an FM transmitter
e) fork over $16.99 for CD

The only thing that would make me happy is if it puts an end to those yards with 50 of those inflatable lighted snowmen, Santas, etc..... some very tacky displays.
