safest good webcam

Calling you WEBCAM experts!

I bought a webcam (LOGITECH QUICKCAM PRO 5000) and within 1 day my computer was crashed to blue screen of death (BSOD!). I'm not 100% sure that the webcam was the cause, but i think it was. and i think i read on ANANDTECH about people having similiar problems.

I want to buy the safest (in terms of will not crash my system) webcam for my computer, hopefully it will have a clear picture. can buy in any price range, but don't want to waste any money.

Can you recommend on for me? Safer the better...

get a Playstation 2 Eyetoy for $5 at a yardsale. The picture quality is great, and the drivers don't have crap (3rd party 🙂 )

i use the ms webcam.. the higher resolution one.. works great.. no prob

Myself, I got a nineteen dollar Logitech from Tigerdirect some time ago and it doesn't crash or anything. But the maximum res is 640x480 and the driver sometimes resets its settings so I end up looking green, but it has never crashed. So I'm guessing it's something about your specific model that's messed up, either that or I just got lucky.

I'd say just buy anything that's not a no-name off-brand and you'll be alright (as far as crashing is concerned). You will still get what you pay for though, so get one that's at least forty bucks. Try a post in the graphics section here and I'm sure you'll get recommendations of good models as well as good brands.
