Safely Remove Hardware Icon in system tray

I recently installed a WD 36gig Raptor as the system drive in my PC, and ever since I installed it I get that 'safely remove hardware' icon in my system tray, and obviously I don't want to stop the drive because this is my main drive and it would be stupid.

Does anyway know a way to get Windows to stop doing this, and what' is needed to correct the issue?

Thanks,

Patrick

It's not an issue, since Windows XP normally indicate SATA drives as 'Removable Hardware' because SATA drives are supposed to be hot-swapable.

Ok, thats cool but how do I get it off my system tray? If I do click stop then windows no longer sees it as being there and well since my it is my system drive, I think that would be a problem.

All I'm asking is if there is a way to get the icon off my system tray.

It's not a perfect fix, but you can try:

Taskbar and Start Menu Properties -> Taskbar tab -> Customize

Find the 'safely remove hardware' icon, click the dropdown menu and select 'always hide'.

Furthermore, you don't have to worry about stopping your system drive because Windows won't let you - just like any other external storage device, it can't be stopped if it's in use. Windows will simply tell you, 'Device cannot be stopped right now, please try again later'.

Hmmm, good to know. I never actually tried stopping it because I figured I would mess something up, but that does make sense that Windows wont let you.

Thanks man!

Ok, I'm gonna try that because rather than hiding it (and getting that arrow) I'd rather just not have it there at all.

Thanks. :)
