Safe way to turn Win7 drive into a data drive?

I'm installing windows onto a new hdd. I want to turn my old windows drive into a data drive for My Documents, etc...

I plan to physically disconnect to old drive while installing windows onto the new drive. After reconnecting, is there anything I need to do to keep windows from being confused by two hard drives with windows installs?

It was terse, but helpful. You don't have to do anything special. Personally, I'd format the drive though. No point in having a bunch of space taken up by an unused Windows
