Safe VRM temps for 4870?

so I've been thinking about OCing my 4870 512 and my VRM temps went up to 120C running the OCCT GPU stress test for 20 minutes (rest default stress settings), at stock clocks, and at 40% fan speed with stock cooler.

so I'll probably DL the Crysis demo and run the benchmark tool since I don't consider 120C to be very safe for the VRMs and I doubt Crysis will push them as hard. anyways, just asking for educational purposes.

I know they get fairly hot; 100c~... but don't they shut down at around 125c? I'd be paranoid of one of those reaching 120c o_O

When I had my 4870 1gb, its VRMs or VDDCs always ran close to 120c when gaming.

Don't mind 48xx VRM temps from OCCT or Furmark: They're just don't represent anything which you'll realistically do with you card.

If your card is able to work through either of the above programs, even for a pretty short time (15-30 mins) you can be more than sure that temperatures in normal, real-world usage are NOT a problem for you.

And if they get to hot, pull the side off your case, pull your pants down and piss on the card. That should keep it nice and cool.

As the above people state, if you aren't noticing issues under normal gaming then you have nothing to worry about.

Meanwhile, if the temps scare you then get aftermarket cooling or install Rivatuner and jack up your fan speed.
