Safe to Remove GeForce 2 Fan ?

Hi guys,

The fan on my GeForce 2 GTS is making some loud noises, it's on top of the GPU's heat sink and is a 40mm. Do you think it's safe to remove it ? The case has one 92mm Vantec Stealth fan (brand new) but I don't know how good the case cooling is (it does has some rounded cables I put in, lol.)

If I remove it and it starts getting too hot what will happen ? Will it just burn up and break or will I have some advance warning ?

Thanks.

Generally speaking, if a video card has a fan on it, it's there for a good reason. If you remove it, replace it with another fan (try to get one that has a good air flow cfm and/or good db level). As far as what could happen, you can [litterally] cook the gpu on the card making it dead and forcing you to purchase a replacement card. IF you're looking for a reason to replace the card anyway, just unplug the fan and let it bake/cook until dead. Reconnect the fan (in case you need to prove that it's intact to someone else) and then go and replace it.

Uh, Akira! Deliberately frying your video card to return it? What is that? Besides, I seriously doubt a Geforce 2 is still under any warrantly. LOL :Q[/quote]
