My mobo doesn't support cool&quiet, but can I lower multiplier to 4x and undervolt to 0,8V using clockgen and be sure the CPU will be safe?

yes, it should be.... because it's done in windows if there's a lockup you can just reboot and everyting will be back to stock.

use clockgen :)

Hey Shimm.. 2.61 ghz!.. That must be a pretty snappy system! How would you rate it compared to your previous systems in games.. and general usage?

Also.. how did you get there?

1. It feels snappier than my 4.0 ghz P4.
2. In terms of games, it loads quicker i.e. WC3, I used to be average 3rd to load of 6. Now I am 1st or 2nd everytime.
3. CD's burn in 3 minutes compared 5 minutes. With p4's for some reason nero went nuts on the read buffer like 25% to 100%... with this buffer stayed fine.

However... INtel did have it's benefits for sure though

1. HT was nice. Whenever I get email now while playing a game, system hangs for about 1 second while my p4 never did.
2. Seti@home was faster (I think).

I enjoy this a64 system a lot! :) i just want to get a chip that can do 2.7 to 2.8 ghz!!! 2.6 seems so weak compared to those over at xtreme!

:)

I can get this high because I'm on a prometeia mach 1 aka phase change cooling (minus temperatures)

That sounds very nice! You will have to get one of the new stepping (and socket 939), maybe they will overclock better.

Yeah, if they sold those Prommies for what they should be selling them for, ~$250-$400, then I would already have one. But at $1,000 each, they're gonna have to keep them! They are sweet though, if you can afford them.
