Yes, I know this question has been asked many times and I really ourght to know the answer, but I just forgot and I want to make absolutely sure that I don't screw anything up. I've got another monitor arriving soon, but I need to keep my main rig on, but swap the monitor over to my server and then swap it back again.

ok, or not?

Cheers!!

well i had a scary incident with a monitor cable when my computer was OFF!

I unscrewed the monitor cable from one of my comps, and decided to plug it into comp #2.

When the monitor cable pins made contact with comp #2 (both comps and monitor are off), a giant spark appeared! It was fscking loud and bright too! it left a big burnt spot on my monitor cable...fortunately the cable and computer were unharmed so :D

Then the computer was attached to a grounded outlet and the monitor wasn't and the spark was the monitor unloading the static into the ground of the computer...

That would not hurt either, because it is basically a grounded lightning...

or it could just be that you forgot to plug in the monitor to the outlet before you plugged in the cable to the computer... pretty common...

I have one moniter and 2 systems and I swap it back and forth without any problems (all 3 on and running). Good luck.

Yep, because the pros behind the tech bench at Best Buy do it all the time!

They do, but more personally, 2 years ago I had a dorm room where our bunk bed butted up against the back of my roomie's desk. I would be sitting on the bottom bunk watching TV and occasionally unplug his monitor while he was working on it. He didn't suspect me for a few days. :D

"..WTF?!? I think my monitor just di... wait... WTF??!! now it's back on! dude, come fix this.."
