Safe to buy from grocery stores?

I have only purchased groceries from small farms and stealing from fields and have noticed some good deals at grocery stores that I want to get. Are grocery stores a safe and secure place to purchase groceries and how do they compare to small farms and stealing from fields as far as quality?

If only I were the type to post parody threads, it would go something like this:
"Safe to buy from the guys with the white van outside the mall?"
Previously I've only bought stuff from guys with overcoats in dark alleys and at the black market. I see these guys with the van seem to have some good deals. Since they're out in the open and all, would it be safe to buy from them?

Kinda OT but this just reminded me...whenever DHL delivers anything to my house, it's always in an unmarked white van...something is unsettling about that.

I heard that grocery stores get the stuff that the local farms couldn't sell themselves. That's why the deals are better - they only have the overstock and RMA'd stuff.

You suggested the quality was somehow less in modified foods.

One flaw with that; Where do you think that GMO foods come from? They don't grow them in outer space.
