safe overclock on default heatsink?

im on a tight budget and i really don't think i can afford a new spu heatsink/fan, what would u guys say is a safe overclock for amd 64 venice 3000+ on dfi sli-dr on default heatsink/fan

I have a winchester 3000+ with stock HSF and I've overclocked it to 2.4ghz, which is about the processor's max. Just watch the temps (make sure they don't get over about 60) and don't use excessive volts and you should be fine.

i think its worth it to spend $30 on a nice hsf. but, otherwise, just watch temps, and dont increase voltage until you really need to

I feel the stock heastink will be quite fine. I am running a +3200 @ 2.5ghz (1.52V) on the stock heatsink/fan combo with a 120 mm intake fan, 2 120 mm exhaust fans and an artic cooler on my vid card. My temps under 100% cpu use for days on end settle around 52C in a warm room, which is quite safe. I used to run a +3000 @ 2594 Mhz with the same setup @ 1.57V and the temps were only 2-3 degrees higher. The stock heatsink is quite nice, and the included thermal grease works as well as artic silver if not better, depending on whom you ask.

lol..... Safe oc OP on your venice should be 65C or lower under load. Your safe to run your vcore up to 1.6 give or take. Watch da temps!

I just upgraded to an XP-90, but I had overclocked my 3000+ Winchester with stock HSF to roughly 2.4ghz with no real problems with temperatures. They got a little high under load though because my room is somewhat warm at times, and that's really the only reason I bought the XP-90. I would try to stay in the 50's at highest.

But you can reach, or at least approach, the max of many 3000+ processors with the stock HSF. Although the XP-90 did give me about a ~10 degree drop... well worth it.
