Safe mode repair my system by itself...or hardware problems?

So i had systems with PSU's rated too low for the systems, could only boot from a softboot, would hang at cold boot due to insufficient power. Proper PSUs were added to the systems, but they still did not boot, hung on a driver loading in windows. However, now each system was rebooted in safe mode (nothing was done to the machine in safe mode), booted fine in safe mode. Then they were rebooted normally and have no problem...

its my understanding that safe mode only loads minimal generic drivers, how could booting in safe mode fix the problem?

Safe mode does not fix the problem, it simply bypasses the problem. It is possible that drivers are normally loaded that relate to power consuming accessories. These are not turned on in Safe Mode.

You can sometimes find out which driver is guilty by running MSCONFIG, and then STARTUP. Uncheck all the startup driver boxes, then restart. By adding them back one or two at a time, you can sometimes find the guilty party.
