What is the max percentage on which I should keep the stock cooler to keep my temps down. I would like to use the cooler for 2yrs or more and noise is no problem. I just want performance and low temps.

Just use the ATI Overdrive in Catalyst Control Center to overclock and that should be safe. Afterall, the card will spend most of its time underclocked in 2D mode.

I don't want to overclock, just want to reduce full load temps to sub 75 or even 70, currently I am getting 78-79 or more at auto.

QFT.

Just use ATI Tool or ATI Tray Tools and create a 2D profile with the fan set to auto and a 3D profile with the fan set to 100%. Set 3D detection up nad you'll have a nice quiet 2D profile and a nice and cool 3D profile.

I personally use 100% fan speend while I game because the volume of the game makes the fan noise issue moot IMO.

The reason is that I feel that my jerks etc are due to a heat issue primarily involving the graphic card, so do you think that increasing the fan speed can reduce the heat issue considerably?

That's a safe temp for your card though. You won't see anything different by decreasing its temperature other than lower numbers. The only reason why I'd bother lowering temps would be to overclock, not do nothing.

That sounds more like a system memory problem to me. Unless of course the jerks are pretty slight and rare, then that's more of a normality than an issue.

ATI tools isn't showing fan speed adjustment options.
This is the latest version for your card so if you don't have this one you might want to try it.

I have tried different memory, didn't change anything.

I get more choppiness and jerks depending upon the graphic card dependence of the game, the more it depends upon the GPU(newer games) the more the jerks. I think putting 2 80mm fans blowing towards the card helped me slightly.
Do you think Accelero X2 can help?

Can it help? Sure. Can it help the "jerkiness" you're describing? I doubt it.

Can you maybe give a video clip of it so we know what exactly you're talking about?

Personally, I think the stock cooler is probably the best one (it's free) if you don't mind the noise.

Crank it up to 100% and just watch those temps drop.
And why not OC it.

X2 does not help AT ALL, if you dont have a huge case with excellent air flow.

I know, because I have one sitting here not being used because the temps are in the high 80's with X2 due to my poor air flow and relatively small case.

The stock cooler for me is the best option because it exhausts the air out the back of the case negating my poor air flow.

Get an x2 cooler and the safe distance is down to a couple of feet before the noise bothers you. I do admit to being anal about noisy computers.
