Safe BH-5 Voltages ???

Just wondering what you all think is safe for longterm use ??

would you push yur BH-5 modules to 3v for everyday use and expect to keep it for a few years ??



What voltages are you all running your BH-5 based memory sticks at ??

i'll do 2.9v, but going higher worries me a little. i'm not sure if your ram will work well for a few years at 3v, maybe a couple years, but i'm just speculating.

i tracked down the tech papers for the BH-5 chips on winbond's site and they had it spec'd up to like 3.2v but i dunno what that's all about

I don't really think there is a benefit over 2.9V...

3V shouldn't be life threating, but i see no benefit.

That memory likes voltage. I'd use whatever you need to get the overclock you want. But if you go over 3V you should probably have a fan over it.

yeah i took the heatspreaders off the memory sticks

i plan to aventually add a better cooling system to the memory



geeez it's hot in here

2.7ghz with 225mhz on the mem was stable all night with every possible program
then the sun came up and the heat swept in.............

some ram like my geil golddragon like the nice high voltages!

I've had my Twinmos/Winbond running at 2.9V all summer without any problems. I haven't had any reason to push it any higher.

Well i know of that some like higher vollts, I just didn't think it had much of a benefit for stability running that high..

Is it just as stable @ 2.9V? ( I assume no, if you need 3 in the first place )

Well i know of that some like higher vollts, I just didn't think it had much of a benefit for stability running that high..

Just because they like lots of volts doesnt mean that pumping in >3V won't drastically shorten the life of the chip (potentially).

i'm having trouble getting my two sticks of pc3500 to 217 @ 2-2-2-6 or 2-2-3-6 with any voltage anymore


what do you all suggest ??

Try running each stick as single and run memtest at that FSB and timings and see if you get any errors.. If it doesn't do 217 fsb with rated rimings, then the ram could be defective and you could RMA it for new sticks..

PC3500 = 217fsb so it should do that easy, just check what your sticks timings are rated for and set them for that in bios and see if they're stable..

yeah it might be cause i removed the heatspreaders from it
which prob voids any warranty anyways

i'm still happy with it tho even tho it cost me more than most the components in my pc put together

they've worked nicely for about a year @ 220 mhz 2-2-2-11 timings @ 2.9 volts.. I haven't really checked if they need that kinda voltage.

well, I have mine at 2.8v on IS-7E. latency 2-2-2-5. BTW, how many Winbond BH-5 chips is on your dimm's PCB? I've a Kingston KHX3500, also has 8 pcs and dual sided, plus currently my Cosair, also is similar to my previous Kingston, Dual sided with 8 pcs of these Winbond BH-5. Lastly, can check your imprints if possible, on your BH-5, mine both stick has imprints WD-250 but strangely, one stick has the other sided as WD-248 and WD-250.

each one of my 512mb sticks has 16 chips on it
