Safe Barton temps??

my barton is sitting at 53C right now ... stable but my room is hot .. almost 90F .. no aircon in my room.

cpu has a slow / quiet panaflo l1a .. you should be ok.

Assuming, I want this CPU to last atleast 2 yrs, what MAX temps should I be looking at. My 120mm has a fan controller that I can turn off when Im not doing nything. So idle w/out the fan is around 43.

If I lower my voltage by a volt, what speeds will run stable?

During 85F ambient room temps with stock cooling i max out at load temps at 73C. And mine is OCed to 3000+ with voltage at 1.8. Youll be fine OCing it. Max temp for XPs are like 85-90C i believe.

MSI K7n2 mobo
barton 2500+
PC2700 512
Geforce4 Ti 4800SE
120 gig 7200 rpm

eh .. just OC, save money and buy a new rig.

you can't move forward with that board / amd - you could always get PC3200 and try and hit 11x200
4800se should be ok for now, wait for the games you want to play come out and buy what you can afford.
more hdd only if you need it. don't buy one if you wont use it.

thnx...Im thnking of bartering my PC2700 for DDR400 for $20.

just curious because some frendz were saying anything above 50C is dangerous.

lol... yes i know thats high but thats only when my parents dont turn on the A/C. Right now its about 60F outside and 67F ambient inside and my CPU is at 56Load 50 Idle. I dont like it that hgih but it seems to be working fine 😛

Yeah that is pretty high. Definitely invest in a better heatsink / fan as the heat that's giving off may not only harm the CPU, but also the video card, ram, hard drive, etc.....

Voltage doesn't kill chips, the heat does.
