In Internet Explorer you can press CTRL+ENTER while in the address bar and it will add the www and .com to the word you type into the address bar.

I found out Safari can do this too with SHIFT+ENTER. The thing is, I've found a few words that don't work and I'm wondering why this is.

I found that HardOCP does not work. Anandtech works fine and pretty much every other sites out there except for a handful of words.

Is there a reason why this occurs?

I used to use that trick way back before Pheonix/Firefox. I am using a recent Webkit nightly, and tried anandtech, slashdot, apple and hardocp with just entering the text without a top level domain. It takes a few seconds, but picked the correct website for each of them.

I found out it's somewhat related to the DNS servers I have in there. If I use my ISP's DNS servers, it'll take me to an RR page. If i put in OpenDNS' servers it will automatically find the site.

I guess that's just the way Safari is. A little quirk to have to live with I guess.
