Safari 5 is out.

Apparently the new 'reader' function can detect when there are multiple pages. eg, if you are reading a 2-page NYT article and you are on page 1 and click the reader, it will load with both pages 1 and 2 visible.

will have to see if it is good enough to compel me to switch from firefox...I doubt it though.

I had already been cheating on Chrome for the past few weeks, going back to Safari. This will just make it official and kick Chrome to the curb!!

The smart address bar is wicked. Not only does it search your history by title of webpage, but the text on the page too.

Wow, the new Reader function is amazing. I just wish there was a way to bind the keyboard command to a single key.

Hmm, won't install on my hackintosh. I've got 10.6.2, but the installer says that I need 10.6.2 or greater. Yeah, doesn't make sense.

Liking Safari 5.. it solidifies it's place as my primary browser. I was honestly debating switching to Chrome, but not anymore.

nyTimes article? What about Anandtech articles? =)
Anandtech articles miss things (due to galleries, etc) in Reader, but for a quick browse, reader is very nice.

Hmm...this might make me rethink my (partial) switch to Chrome. I'll have to try it myself. Interesting to see this as a common sentiment, though.

Well arguably.. I prefer Safari because it's more OS X like. I hate how ugly Chrome is, and how it just doesn't function like a native OS X app. Plus there are odd UI choices. So I was putting up with Chrome because it was faster than Safari, but now Safari is blazing. 🙂

Wow, Safari 5 + the FullScreenYouTube extension = byebye Flash and stupid 90% cpu usage.

Now both Vimeo and YouTube play HTML5 video fullscreen with Safari 5.

Any word on mouse gestures? I can't use a browser with out em and Safari is the only one left that doesn't have a way. Apple has always had their head up their a$$ when it comes to using a mouse effectively (aside from the lovely trackpad on unibody macbooks).

Well, that could be argued.. regardless, there are developer extensions which will be out this summer, so I'm sure someone will make something for it with that feature.

Still no feature to undo closing the last tab. (or am I just missing something?) Any suggestions as to how other people handle that?

Thanks very much -- for what it's worth, it looks like command-z (the key combination to reopen a recently closed tab) actually opens two versions of the same tab in Safari 5, but I'm loving the full screen feature!

Safari 5 seems to run really slow on both my 2009 Mini and 2009 MacBook. It almost always hangs on loading pages for at least a few seconds.

I just installed Firefox on the Mini (using it now), and it seems at least somewhat faster.

Are there some settings I need to mess with to make things better in Safari?

Are you using Glims on Safari? If so, then you need to disable its feature of using CMD+Z, I did that and I no longer get 2 tabs.
