Safari 5.0.1 Memory Usage

Just curious..

Has anyone else had an issue with obscene amounts of memory usage in Safari 5.0.1?

I thought maybe it was extensions, but even with them turned off it happens. When I first start Safari, it's fine.. sits at around 80-90MB, but after about an hour of use (doesn't seem to matter what I do really).. it can hit 800MB without really even trying.

Guess I need to make another user account and see if that fixes it at all.

I haven't had any problems with Safari 5 memory usage.

Hmm.. ok. Tried it on my Macbook Pro and my Hack and both have the same issues.

Surf to a few sites in tabs.. memory usage will spike from initial 60-90MB usage up to 150MB. Keep adding tabs, or even close the window and reopen. Memory usage doesn't fall off. Repeat and it will eventually get up to 500MB, and then keep repeating and it just keeps going up.

Very odd.

Well, thought I had checked all the problems.. turns out it was AdBlock causing the major issues. Safari still retains some memory when AdBlock is off, but usually only 20MB here and there. With AdBlock on, some websites retained 50-100MB. Probably will go back to Glimmerblocker or something.

Having the same problem here, gonna try removing Adblock to see if it helps. Im regularly at 800mb - 1.2gb after an hour or so.

Well its better without Adblock, but still very high. It was up to 750mb before I exited and went back in after moderate usage.

Yea.. having the same issue with Firefox 4 and some Addons (mainly seems to be Firebug/Xmarks causing the issue). Chrome seems to be the only browser that does a decent job of flushing the memory cache. Been using it for the last week (since v10 came out) and have finally been ok with it.

I used Chrome for awhile and never had any memory issues, but had issues with some sites working as designed (MyVerzon, etc). Safari seems to do a better job overall, but the memory issues stink 🙁

Agreed. I hope it gets rectified at some point as I still prefer Safari over everything else.
