The guy looked dirty, probably was lice infested and sure as hell did not look like he was in charge of anything save hiding from American troops and Iraqis alike to protect his on hide. If anyone thinks that attacks or the Iraqi resistance is dead then you guys are fooling yourselves. These attacks were not controlled or order by Saddam and I doubt anyone took orders from him once he was dethroned a month after intial hostilities were declared over with. The resistance seems to be coming from a grass-root nationalistic movement which is about getting rid of our occupying army and about Iraqis gaining real control of over their goverment and future. While capturing Saddam may be a win for Bush in the short term the continued attacks of our soldiers in Iraq will quickly erode this in a month or two. If anything he was probably turned in by the very same resistance leaders he was going to met. I am sure there is no love lost there.

I doubt that Saddam had much use to the resistance other than as a figurehead for some.

This half baked dictator has been given too much credit for too long. Brutal? Yes. Some kind of Hitler in terms of native ability and leadership? Hardly.

Maybe not.
But I still think his capture is vitally important.
Whether or not it was a possibility, the idea of Saddam somehow regaining power was always in the back of the minds of the Iraqi people.
How much of a difference this makes, we won't know for some time. But my guess is that over the long term, it will reduce the will of the resistance fighters and some of them, certainly not all, will realize that they are fighting a lost cause.
Hopefully, we can get done and get out in the early part of next year.

The era of Saddam is officially over......he is not coming back to power !

Maybe that will help some frightened Iraqi's to stand up to the other thugs that exist there.
