Captured Saddam Hussein loyalists in Iraq are proving adept at beating lie-detector tests, frustrating attempts to find banned weapons and to learn what happened to Navy Capt. Michael Scott Speicher.

Link

The scientists are passing lie detector tests about WMD yet this incompetent administration claims that they are lying and get this "fooling the lie detector test".

One possible explanation: they are taking the tests while wearing aluminum foil caps shaped like Hershey's Kisses as in the movie "Signs."

Personally, I think we need to stop worrying about the Geneva Convention. I mean, the information here could save lives! Why do we worry about some outdated piece of international law?

Well, lie detector tests are not credible anyway. The fact that they're actually using lie detector tests is very troubling... Is this the kinda method they used to get 'evidence' that Iraq has WMDs and is a imminent threat?

Maybe they will bring in some psychics next and have them read the mind of the detainees?

Apparently you're not too adept at reading. They have caught them in blatant known lies while the machine showed otherwise.
In one incident, an Iraqi involved in a weapons program was shown two pictures. In one, officials cut his image out of a photo of workers at a weapons factory. He agreed that the cut-out image was of him. They then showed him the full photo, with his image restored. This time, he denied that he was in the photo. The polygraph did not catch him in this blatant lie.
And where do you get "yet this incompetent administration claims that they are lying and get this fooling the lie detector test" from out of the article. The article refers to US and military officials and the CIA. Nowhere does it refer to officials from the White House.

Sometimes one needs to put a lie detector to your posts just to weed out the biased crap.

In any case, in reference to the article, it's an interesting development making it that much tougher to determine what, if any, weapons or weapons programs the Iraqis had. I, for one, don't think they had much, if any real weapons. But I'm not at all convinced that Saddam didn't have his programs in mothballs until the heat was lifted and clear skies returned.

Well how many options do they really have? Bribes, threats, torture, and lie detectors. That's about it. And you can fool lie detectors but I doubt that many people actually can.

Because the standards by which you keep/interrogate/judge/etc others will be reflected in how others do the same for you. Ignoring the GC means you give carte blanche to any foreign power holding US personnel to do exactly the same.

It's a safeguard against this sort of degradation of standards.

We could do it Saddam style, beat them and torture them until they break and then kill their families. Their tongues will be alot looser when it is confirmed that Saddam is dead.

We have a polygraph specialist at work. She's repeatedly said, you can beat the machine, but if you can beat the examiner, there's something wrong with the examiner.
