I am doing some charity work for a friend of a relative. They have an old PC that the sound wasn't working and asked if I could take a look. I'm not going to give you the long version--just the CliffsNotes: The sound card doesn't work because it's a POS IBM MWAVE Card. I update the PC with some old parts but newer than they have... yet... there's a game they want installed that's needing 3d acceleration... an old game, but I don't have any video cards I want to donate... or do I...

'No, not me, please...' I can hear the VooDoo2 card begging 'Don't give me away. We belong together, forever'.

It's a sad day, I don't think they'll appreciate this card as much as I once did. But, they'll get to play crappy and/or old 1998 3d games on it... instead of it gathering dust. I will miss you old friend.

NOOOOOOOO!!!! You said MWAVE!!!! GRRR! I had that crap in my Aptiva!! It died a few days after my warranty went out!! I think there was a lawsuit on IBM regarding that, but I don't know what came out of it.

Anyway, the Voodoo2 is a good card. Hell, I'm still using my NvIdia TNT in my machine.

Ahhh the days of SLI...
If only someone would make a motherboard w/2 full speed AGP slots, and give us the option to bring about SLI-2.0.

That would make me happy.

Yeah, the Mwave is ElCrapo. I could probably have gotten it to work, but, I have some SB16 cards I won't need... much easier. IBM Settled, IIRC, people who qualified could get a new soundcard and modem. I think you needed proof of purchase, was about it.

Upgraded this from Win95, Cyrix 6x86 PR120 (100MHz), 16MB and 1GB to Win98SE, P166, 32MB and 3GB. Actually feels a little slower win 98SE on there then with 95 and the oldest components. Even after tweaking.

Still it's now usable, and should give them a bit more mileage out of this system. When they finally give up I'll probably have a PII system in the graveyard to pickapart... ;)

Keep it, I'd go look for some other cheap card. There are usually some $20 video cards out there that will meet the requirement. Just check the FS/FT forums and ebay...

Nah, then I'd have to shell out $$$ to fix their PC. Not gonna do that. Pulling stuff from oldcrap box isn't quite so bad, even if it still costs me $$$, that card is worthless. It only has sentimental value, which is sad, but it does. I'm letting it go... can use the space for new(er) 'junk'.

Noooooooooo! ;)

I still have 3 12MB Voodoo2 cards around here somewhere. At least 2 of them are going to go into an older system so I can play those good old GLide games.

You have the special limited limited edition one! :) I had a v5 5500 pci for a full year... man that thing was sweet.

for the OP ... give it up it's only a piece of hardware, however if its that sentimental to you, then keep it.

Give it away. Let someone else gain some enjoyment from it. You had yours, now pass it on to those that will actually use it and benefit. That's what charity is about.

I have had an Asus T2P4 running for the last 6 3/4 years now. It's got a Voodoo3 3000 PCI (no AGP slot) running with a K6-2 500. Some rigs you just can't let go of.

I think two Voodo2 12MB cards running SLI is more appropriate for this system and I would entertain the idea of trading the Voodo3 3000 for them.

heheh yes dual agp slots would rule... can you imagine how disgusting dual radeon 9800's would be? This could become a reality with pci-express...

I remember when my Voodoo3 3000 PCI was looking all sad when I pulled it out of my system. But then I tossed it aside and put in my shiny new Radeon DDR :)
