Two nites ago while I was playing some War3, my comp just completely shutoff. Tried to boot it up again but looked like it was dead. Thought it was the PSU since none of the case fans where spinning.........so today I bought a new 400W Allied PSU from a local shop........this time fan and HSF started up and spinning but no video signal🙁......went to a friends house and tried his cpu........no luck........turned out to be my board.:|.......man I only had this board for like 5 months. Replaced the dead MSI KT7266-PRO with a KT3-RU....everything running fine now.

today I am very sad.

edit: gay taken out for the homosexuals on this forum.

yup sounds pretty homosexual to me

try and keep those queers away from your PC

/total sarcasim off

Some people huh

"gay" could also imply happiness, as was its original term. Though I know no one who would be happy with the death of a computer...
And is it me, or are MSI motherboards not the greatest out there? I just learned of someone else who's MSI board won't boot anymore - same sort of sudden death.

yeah but my PSU went out too........prolly a power spike or something like that.........guess its time to replace that $15 surge protector that I bought from walmart with something better.......any ideas on wut I could use?

how bout this: Back-UPS BE350VA UPS

monster makes some power strips with build in surge that give you $10k worth of warranty on it...in other words if the power strip makes your system go kaput monster buys a new one.

Or you could just buy an APS and then never have to worry again.

I originally checked out this thread to see how peeps were gonna respond to the title, looks like a mod has fixed it now tho😉

I would stay away from the Back-UPS Office series. I have a few of them and I just don't trust them (I have a feeling they are very inferior to other UPS's, I just don't have proof YET!). I highly recommend the Back-UPS Pro series. They give you the best bang for the buck. You can get them even cheaper off Ebay just be aware if you get a used unit there will be no warranty/Equipment Protection Policy.

Is there anyway....and forgive me if this has already been done.....but can't higher end PSU manufacturers actually put some kind of surge proection right there in the power supply itself?.....I've seen that most surge protection units (without the multiplug bit) are actually not that huge!

Any while we're at it....how about server case power supplies that have a battery built in at the rear top.....mhmmm...might be too heavy.....plus theres the heat element....nah....maybe not.

Do not use the term "gay" in any derogatory manner (especially on the AT forums).

How come especially on the AT forums....are most tecchies gay then?......I think I have missed something here 🙂

I think the reason he says especially on AT form is that this forum doesn't even like people getting flamed , much less derogatory comments being made based on race, sex, etc.
The moderators will ban your butt for a week or permanently.

Well for starters, MOV's (the part that takes the hit in a surge protector) have a limited life. Even if power supplies had them they would eventually burn out. Also, this would only protect the AC in on a computer. Surges could easily take other paths (through powered speakers, the monitor, network cables, printers, etc.). So even if they did, it would not offer any real protection unless you protect the other devices.

I actually have seen 1 power supply that DID have MOV's in it. I don't remember who made it but it came in an In-win S500 I got from MWave. It was NOT a Power Man (Sparkle) which is what In-Win usually puts in their cases. It was just some generic (IMO) power supply. It is the only power supply I have seen MOV's in. I have not seen any in Sparkle or Enermax power supplies. NOTE: That is not to say they don't have them. Surge protection COULD be there in some other form that I don't recognize.

Check out JustCooler.com. They show a P/S with surge-protection built in, three extra outlets, and a slot fan instead of a typical round fan. Haven't found anybody selling them though.

I guess they should have a PSU that had a replaceable MOV?....like on some surge protector strips.

I hear what your saying about other devices not being protected but for those, you could then have a four way generic spike protector to cover monitor, speakers, scanner & printer.

Like the sound of that Justcooler PSU.
