Here's a sad story, friend of mine tosses out a fw900 i picked up used at a second hand store back in 2008 for $10 i kid you not.I had picked up a gateway fhd2400 not to long later as the FW900 was as big as a yacht and it was bending my cheapo desk down the middle as it was particle wood and had the fw900 in my living room on the floor,it lacked a stand but quality screen wise was 100% and it worked just as good,he assumed it was broken and slammed it into the dumpster.:awe:

Decided to return the fhd2400 as the $500 i spent on it didn't see worthwhile to me,found out what he did and to this day he still gets it from me lol.:D

So he decided it was broken just by, kinda looking at it when it was turned off?

I hope he never sees my car parked on the side of road and tries to throw it away.

It was a CRT. Those things usually can't be given away. It was not too bad an assumption that it was trash... but was he a roommate? If he was just visiting then wtf?

404: Sad story not found!

You had something that was looked like junk laying around your living room and someone threw it out? The sad story is they probably think you need your mother to clean up after you. You paid $10 for it 5 years ago...

The guy was a room mate, the monitor was on the floor in the living room and without the stand it appeared broken but when i used it i had the thing resting on a couple 2x4 and the screen itself he knew worked but i guess sitting there without the stand and fhd2400 on my desk who would have known lol.

The FW900 to those who have no idea what it is,its a widescreen 24'' 16:10 crt monitor and one of the few that boosted a 1920x1200 resolution and considered by many to be the golden goose of gaming monitors.:)

I still have an FW900, but it no longer works. Are there places that will refurbish them?

jesus, I don't know how so many troll posts have been allowed here.

The FW900 is still an uber device if it was still in it's prime.

I run a NEC 2490WUXi.

The FW900 would smoke it except in heat radiation and size.

I did the IBM PS2 FAQ. I went to work for a company by coincidence that threw out Pentium boards and mega graphics cards and more just less then a week before I came on board. For my PS2 Model 90

I started with a Model 60 early on, by 92 had a Model 80, then the same year a 90 gifted to me.

They sent an email out if anyone was interested then with the caveat it had to be removed that day. It was in 1994 or so.

If I sold it at the time on BBS/InterNUT...it would have been easily $10k as is.

$10k is not so important in 2013 :(

Usually maybe, but the FW900 can fetch a pretty penny. I picked one up a few months ago for $650 which was an absolute steal. I ended up having to buy a new desk to support it, but I'd drop kick anyone who threw away an FW900, even in non working order it could still fetch a few hundred $$$ depending on what was wrong with it.

I had a ViewSonic P225f 21" 1600x1200 at 75Htz LCD monitor about 6 years ago. It had amazing IQ but it died so I decided to got the LCD route. I miss the higher refresh rates but what are you gonna do?

Had a 19'' dell that did 1600x1200,the picture was pretty clean and it had a 105 dpi, heck my u2412m is 94 dpi and my back up 17'' 1280x1024 is at 96 dpi....a 27 2560x1440 monitor gets a dpi of 108 and i hear this is simply as good as it gets for widescreens 30'' and below unless you count 4k.

19" Dell CRT did 1600x1200 at 85Hz. They were nice. Rebadged Sony tubes anyway.

what can you do? nowadays quality CRT are rare as ghost.

If I threw out a FW900 and someone snagged it and bragged about it, I wouldn't have a problem with it. If I could go back in time with that knowledge, I'd have just given it to them right off the bat instead if throwing it out first. Bottom line, I don't want a CRT anywhere near my desk.

I had a nice 19" view sonic CRT, and the day it popped and let the smoke out was one if the more exciting computing days I've had. I was playing BF2 when the image got very out of focus, then a thin but very bright horizontal line appeared for a split second followed by the pop. I looked at the time, Frys was still opened, rushed there and bought my first 19" LCD (NEC) and never looked back.

either you have no eye for quality viewing or it must of been a bottom of the line 19" - no wonder you were not able to tell the difference.

FW900 isn't your average CRT. in terms of IQ - even the best IPS cannot compare to this CRT.

go figure.

My EyeOne calibrated NEC 2490WUXi is a lot like my Sony except nearly 2' less deep and 90 degrees cooler.

I have an HP variant of the Sony FW-900 that I don't have room for anymore on my desk. I had to trash the thing, it still works ok. Have it up on CL but have not had a bite on it, don't really want to bother with ebay. Any ideas on what to do with it?

Got rid of my fw900 about a year ago. I regret it a little bit now that I went back to played the same games I enjoyed on it. You realize how much motion blur there is on IPS displays when you have an apples-apples comparison (even if it is just memory).

Fantastic screen. But it just wasn't bright enough for say use anymore. It had run its course and all sorts of calibration couldn't quite brinf it back.
